  • John LaFerla. Facebook: Wall. "Andy Harris, and his Far Right Republican compatriots once again declaring a war on Women. An all-male panel of religious leaders, none of which were doctors, testified in front of a Congressional committee about birth control coverage this morning. Birth Control and other critical women's health coverages are coming under attack and no Doctors or Women were invited to testify! This is absolutely outrageous. As an Ob/Gyn and as a practitioner of public health, I would like to call on the all-male GOP leadership to stop calling in all-male religious leaders as well as panels full of lay people to decide whether birth control should be fully covered by insurance plans. If your car happens to break down and you want it fixed, you call a Mechanic. If you need advice about the law, you consult a lawyer. Since when did religious leaders become experts on Women's Health? As a practitioner of Medicine for over 40 years and as a proud supporter of Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and other women's health groups, I promise that if elected, I will do everything in my power not to let this happen in the future." • John LaFerla. Facebook: Wall. 6 March 2012. "Not only does Andy Harris believe that abortion should be banned even in cases of rape and incest, but he has even voted against making emergency contraception available to women. Additionally, he has voted against increasing protections for victims of domestic abuse and stronger equal pay provisions for women in the workplace. Please help me end Harris' war on women." • Dave Wheelan. Chestertown Spy: Election 2012 Profile: John LaFerla For Congress. 24 January 2012. "All my life, I've cared about my patients and their well being. Over time, this included the communities where they live, and now this commitment extends the country as a whole [¦] The truth is when I am working in health centers in Chestertown, Denton or Goldsborugh, I still see people that are hurting. They still can't afford needed health care. While we've made progress, there is still so much that needs to be done." (www.chestertownspy.com)
  • John LaFerla. Video: Meet the Candidates. 27 March 2012. "I believe the Affordable Care Act, while far from perfect, is a major step forward to reforming a system that would have bankrupted the nation if we did nothing. I do not believe repealing insurance company rescission, repeal of keeping children on family insurance plans until 26, and the repeal of the prevision that disallows using per-existing conditions as a pretext to drop coverage [...] would harm millions of Americans. Instead we should build on the system and help make common sense changes." (youtu.be)

"I stand on the side of love and I don't think there is any room in our society for hatred of the other. I know as a doctor, being gay or lesbian isn't a choice, it's something you are born with and we need to treat everyone with equal treatment." (pqasb.pqarchiver.com)

  • John LaFerla. Social Security and Pensions.. 3 March 2012. "I will strongly oppose all efforts to privatize social security and oppose any efforts to cut benefits for our seniors. Social Security needs to be protected from the same people on Wall Street that created the economic circumstances that gave us the great recession. With minor tinkering that avoids a higher retirement age and benefit cuts, we can ensure the solvency of social security for years to come." (vote-md.org)
